The Casino Building built in 1913 is almost 100 years Old !
Sunday, August 1st, 2010
The Casino Building is in City Park and features the Spanish Mission Style that was popular in the area during that time period. It was basically a snack bar for cold drinks, ice cream and hot dogs as well as a meeting place. Its near the lagoons, tennis courts, museums and has been totally redone since Katrina almost washed it away. The Park itself was established in 1853 and continues to get better with each passing year. The City of New Orleans does not run the Park so meter maids are not allowed to harass patrons. Parking is free ! Can someone take a hint !
Crepe Myrtles Bloom all Summer in New Orleans !
Friday, July 30th, 2010
The Crepe Myrtle may be the most popular small tree in the City of New Orleans. The blooms are constant and abundant from Summer to Fall. The small trees must love our climate and have been climbing the popularity list for the last decade. This colorful display is in City Park leading up to the Art Museum as they line both sides of the street. The dark red ones may be my favorite as the colors are so vibrant.

Wednesday, April 21st, 2010
A splash of color is just what New Orleans needed this Spring ! This Historic home in Mid City fits the bill for the garden of the week ! These splashes of color mean someone spent a lot of time planting and replanting after one of the colder Winters New Orleans has had in years.
New Orleans Real Estate Oddities, The Lakeview Teardowns, More than ever!
Friday, April 9th, 2010
Lakeview is a very popular place to live in New Orleans. It was developed in the late 1940’s and 1950’s. These cottages were small often just 2 bedrooms and one bath. The real eastate value of the empty lot became worth more if the home were town down in order to build a larger and newer home. Thus the term “teardown” in the New Orleans Real Estate Dictionary. This home is a newer home in an older neighborhood.
New Orleans Lakeview Real Estate has a large variety of styles. The Camelback Cottage!
Sunday, April 4th, 2010
The stucco cottages in the early 1930-1940 subdivisions of New Orleans have always been one of my favorite styles. Its in the porches and the curves. This is a great example of how people just made them larger. Adding another two story addition in the rear to increase the room. Since it looks like a camels back, they become Camelbacks which could go on any style home. This one just happened to be a cottage in Lakeview in New Orleans.
How do New Orleans Street Cars and Cemeteries Mix. End of the Line!!
Saturday, March 6th, 2010
The cemeteries in New Orleans were once on the outskirts of town. That was the case in 1840’s and beyond when you were buried at the St. Patrick #2 Cemetery at the end of Canal Street. This just happens to the the end of the line for the Canal Street Line. Being buried above ground has nothing to do with the water table or flooding. That was the way of the old country. The customs were brought here from Europe.

New Orleans Street Cars, The forgotten line! Its to City Park!
Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010
One of the best bargains for tourist and locals is the New Orleans Street Car Lines. Many time we forget that the line does have cars running from Canal Street to the Entrance of City Park via Carrollton Ave. The line drops you off by Bayou St. John and Esplanade. City Park is better than ever and even getting better with new things by the month. Take the time to ride and walk New Orleans.
City Park is great piece of Real Estate! The Sculpture Garden is free to enjoy!
Wednesday, January 13th, 2010
New Orleans City Park is a great piece of real estate between Lakeview and Mid-City. Its on the verge of once again becoming a real gem in New Orleans and the surrounding area. The Sculpture Garden is free for all to enjoy. It is between the new tennis area and the Museum of Art. Put this on your walking tour. Such an asset makes the residential areas around the park just that much better.
Lakeview Homes, The origional Lakeview Cottage Redone!
Sunday, January 3rd, 2010
The original Lakeview Cottages were built in the 1950’s looked like this home. Since Katrina there are even fewer of these original raised cottage styles left in Lakeview. The cottages were raised structures that featured hardwood floors, plaster walls, 9′ ceilings, small garages, small closets, wood windows, and wood siding. Many time the homes only had two bedrooms with a large eat in kitchen. Many have been torn down and many have been added on to so as to loose the original flavor of these homes. Lakeview and Old Metairie were the best areas to see these cottages in. The land value increased so much in these areas that these cottages became tear-downs.
